The Reception Baseline Assessment is a short, interactive and practical assessment of your child’s early literacy, communication, language and mathematical skills when they begin school, using materials that most children of your child’s age will be familiar with.  Your child’s class teacher will carry out the assessment one-to-one, at any time during the first 6 weeks of starting Foundation Stage.

It does not require any preparation at home or at school, and will help teachers to understand what their pupils can do at the beginning of their time in Foundation Stage.  Although you will not receive any formal report from this process, your child’s class teacher will discuss initial findings from this and the school’s baseline during the parent consultation evening in October.
